Job Description
Mine Hire has been mandated to source a high-calibre Section Mining Engineer for a world-class large-scale opencast mining operation situated in Lephalale, Limpopo.
Role Overview & Purpose
The Section Mining Engineer leads short-to-medium-term mine planning, drill and blast design, fleet utilization analysis, and pit optimization to safely hit production targets while controlling unit mining costs.
Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and execute 3-month to 1-year rolling mining plans and production schedules using industry-leading mining software.
- Design, simulate, and optimize blast patterns, fragmentation profiles, and wall stability protocols in collaboration with the Geotechnical team.
- Monitor and analyze load-and-haul cycle times, payload management, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Ensure strict compliance with legal, environmental, and statutory requirements governed by the Mine Health and Safety Act.
- Drive continuous improvement projects, cost reduction initiatives, and technological automation integration across the mining section.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
- BEng / BSc / BTech Degree in Mining Engineering from a recognized tertiary institution.
- Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency (MMCC) or Mine Overseer’s Certificate is highly advantageous.
- Minimum 5+ years mining engineering experience in an opencast hard-rock or coal mining environment.
- Proficiency in specialized mining planning software (Deswik, Surpac, Studio OP, Vulcan) and blast modeling tools.
- Valid Medical Certificate of Fitness (Red Ticket).
- Valid Code 08 (EB) Driver’s License.
Remuneration & Benefits
Salary: R85,000 – R115,000 per month (CTC, including performance incentives and executive housing/relocation allowance).
