Job Description

Mine Hire is currently recruiting a qualified and experienced Mechanical Fitter for a premier underground trackless mining operation located in the Steelpoort / Burgersfort region of Limpopo.

Role Overview & Purpose

The Mechanical Fitter is responsible for safe, proactive maintenance, scheduled servicing, troubleshooting, and breakdown repairs on Trackless Mobile Machinery (TMM) and fixed underground plant installations to achieve optimal equipment reliability and minimize downtime.

Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities

  • Perform planned maintenance schedules, overhauls, and inspections on TMM fleet (LHDs, Drill Rigs, Dump Trucks, UVs) and utility machinery.
  • Diagnose mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults swiftly and execute high-standard repairs in accordance with OEM specifications and mine safety procedures.
  • Maintain and repair fixed underground installations including conveyor systems, dewatering pumps, and ventilation fans.
  • Ensure strict compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), zero-harm standards, and site-specific standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct pre-use checklists, job risk assessments (JRA/SLAM), and maintain accurate shift logbooks and job cards.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

  • Grade 12 / N3 Certificate with Mathematics and Physical Science / Engineering Science.
  • Recognised Section 13 or Section 26D Trade Test Certificate (Fitter / Mechanical Fitter) from an accredited MQA / QCTO body.
  • Minimum 3–5 years post-apprenticeship experience on Trackless Mobile Machinery (TMM) in an underground mining environment.
  • Proven working knowledge of high-pressure hydraulic systems, transmission assemblies, and power trains (Sandvik / Epiroc / Caterpillar).
  • Valid Medical Certificate of Fitness (Red Ticket) or ability to obtain one.
  • Valid Code 08 (EB) Driver’s License.

Remuneration & Benefits

Salary: R42,000 – R58,000 per month (Cost to Company, negotiable based on qualifications and operational track record).
