Job Description

Mine Hire is seeking an energetic, customer-centric Field Service Technician (Heavy Equipment & TMM) to deliver top-tier on-site diagnostic, commissioning, and maintenance support across major iron ore and manganese mining operations in the Kathu region.

Role Overview & Purpose

The Field Service Technician delivers technical expertise directly on mine sites, handling advanced mechanical and electro-hydraulic diagnostics, component change-outs, equipment rebuilds, and warranty servicing on open-cast and underground heavy earthmoving plant.

Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities

  • Execute field service interventions, on-site commissioning, preventative maintenance, and emergency breakdown repairs on OEM mining machinery.
  • Utilize advanced electronic diagnostic tools to troubleshoot complex hydraulic circuits, CAN-bus control systems, engines, and drivelines.
  • Manage component overhauls, structural modifications, and warranty claim documentation accurately.
  • Liaise directly with client mine engineers, site foremen, and maintenance planners to optimize fleet availability and mean time between failures (MTBF).
  • Uphold the highest standard of health and safety protocol, completing on-site risk assessments and maintaining field service vehicles and specialized tooling.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

  • Grade 12 / N3–N4 Technical Certificate.
  • Red Seal Trade Test as a Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic, or Millwright.
  • Minimum 4–6 years operational experience in mining plant maintenance and field service environments.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of heavy earthmoving / TMM equipment (loaders, articulated dump trucks, surface drill rigs).
  • Valid Medical Certificate of Fitness (Red Ticket).
  • Valid Code 10 (C1) or Code 08 Driver’s License with a clean driving record.

Remuneration & Benefits

Salary: R48,000 – R68,000 per month (plus standby allowances, service vehicle, and comprehensive mining benefits).
