Job Description
Mine Hire is seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join our client’s advanced reclamation operation in Carletonville. This role is critical to ensuring the stability, safety, and efficiency of reclamation activities, including tailings dam construction, slope stability assessments, and subsurface investigations. The ideal candidate will bring innovative engineering solutions to optimize reclamation processes and ensure long-term site stability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Site Investigations: Conduct detailed geotechnical site investigations to assess soil and rock properties, groundwater conditions, and potential hazards related to reclamation activities.
- Stability Analysis: Perform slope stability analysis and design stabilization measures for tailings dams, waste dumps, and other reclamation structures.
- Risk Management: Develop and implement geotechnical risk management plans, including monitoring and early-warning systems for potential geotechnical failures.
- Design and Optimization: Collaborate with civil and environmental engineers to design and optimize reclamation structures, ensuring compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Utilize advanced geotechnical software to analyze data and produce detailed reports for stakeholders, including regulatory bodies.
- Training and Development: Provide technical guidance and training to junior engineers and site personnel on geotechnical best practices and innovative techniques.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 7 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably in mining or reclamation operations
- Proficiency in geotechnical software such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, or similar
- Strong understanding of tailings dam design, slope stability, and subsurface investigations
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
Additional Requirements:
- Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred
- Experience in advanced reclamation projects is highly desirable
