Mine Hire is recruiting an experienced Mining Safety Officer (SHE / Risk Management) for a major mining contractor delivering specialized drilling and earthmoving solutions in the eMalahleni / Witbank basin.

Role Overview & Purpose

The Safety Officer ensures total operational compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), facilitates risk assessments, investigates incidents, and fosters a zero-harm safety culture across all contractor site operations.

Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly SHE audits and workplace safety inspections across mining project sites.
  • Facilitate Baseline, Issue-Based, and Continuous Risk Assessments (HIRA / HAZOP / SLAM).
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCAT / SCAT) for all incidents and near-misses, compiling legally compliant investigation reports.
  • Ensure contractor compliance with client mine standards, Section 2.17.1 / 2.6.1 MHSA statutory requirements, and ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 frameworks.
  • Deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks, and coordinate emergency response readiness drills.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

  • National Diploma in Safety Management or equivalent tertiary SHE qualification.
  • SAMTRAC / COMSOC 1 & 2 certification (accredited).
  • Minimum 3–5 years safety officer experience in heavy mining or mining contractor operations.
  • Thorough working knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Valid Medical Certificate of Fitness (Red Ticket).
  • Valid Code 08 Driver’s License.

Remuneration & Benefits

Salary: R40,000 – R55,000 per month (CTC, company vehicle allowance, and standard contractor benefits).
