Environmental Officer – Rustenburg

Job Description

As an Environmental Officer at our mining operation, you will play a crucial role in ensuring regulatory compliance and driving sustainability initiatives. You will monitor environmental conditions, oversee programs, and liaise with stakeholders to promote responsible mining practices.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure the site’s compliance with all applicable environmental laws and regulations.
• Track compliance metrics and identify areas for continuous improvement.
• Conduct daily site inspections and meticulously document environmental conditions.
• Support the implementation and management of environmental programs and projects.
• Manage the environmental complaints register, ensuring timely resolutions.
• Report environmental incidents and non-compliances to relevant authorities.
• Oversee waste management and recycling programs to minimize environmental impact.
• Implement effective invasive species control programs.
• Provide expert advice to management on best environmental practices.
• Assist with the preparation and submission of environmental applications and permits.
• Serve as the designated Environmental Control Officer for assigned projects.
• Foster strong collaborative relationships internally and with external stakeholders.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related discipline.
• Thorough knowledge of South African environmental laws and regulations.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite and data management software.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in environmental compliance, preferably in the mining sector.
• Strong organizational, time management, and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel between mine sites.
